patterns against workers

A film-essay by  Olena Newkryta.

“Detecting the patterns of weave codes, datasets, and orchestrated movements, Patterns Against Workers renders visible the entanglements of economic, political, and engineering forces, which manifest in the operating systems of our glowing screens. By delving deep into the historical-material fabrics of technological infrastructures that determine contemporary conditions of labour, the filmessay contradicts the widespread myths on the immateriality of digital technology and autonomously acting, smart machines. As a hand is tirelessly swiping and scrolling through the entangled threads of the factory system, automation and computer technology, it touches upon the all-pervasive methods of management and extraction which not only penetrate algorithmic networks but also deserted landscapes and sleepless bodies. Patterns Against Workers addresses the state of exhaustion not only as a pathologic symptom of capitalism’s exploitative forces, but as a socio-political condition bearing the potential for resistance – by becoming radically unruly.” (by O.N.)
